Raney keynotes international conference
Dr. Arthur A. Raney, associate professor of communication, was invited to be one of five keynote speakers at an international conference on entertainment theory and effects in Benasque, Spain
Comm grad student wins inaugural McKay Scholarship
Graduate student and former FSU tennis player Ania Rynarzewska has been awarded an inaugural Jim McKay Scholarship, to be awarded annually to one male and one female NCAA student-athlete who have excelled academically and plan pursue graduate studies in communication. Each McKay Scholar receives $10,000.
V89 wins awards
WVFS, The Florida State University's campus radio station better known as V89, won two bronze medals and a finalist certificate at the presitigious New York Festivals Radio Programming & Promotions Awards. It was the first year the station entered the international competition.
FSU Forensics earns honors
The Florida State University Forensics Speech team traveled to Florida Southern College in Lakeland on Oct. 2 and 3 to compete in the Child of the Sun Individual Events Tournament. Of the nine schools in attendance, FSU placed third in team sweepstakes and scored more sweeps points per entry than any other school’s team.
Hispanic Marketing Communication students lend perspective
Advertising Age columnist Rochelle Newman-Carrasco, in examining the changing perceptions of the Hispanic market and advertisers’ approach to it, recruited a group of students from the School of Communication’s Center for Hispanic Marketing Communication to give their opinions of the Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies’ conference.
HMC research featured in Ad Age publication
The 2009 edition of Hispanic Fact Pack, Annual Guide to Hispanic Marketing and Media, featured two charts created from research by the Center for Hispanic Marketing Communication, an affiliate of the School of Communication.
FSU Communication professor helps analyze 2010 Census campaign
Dr. Felipe Korzenny, a professor in the School of Communication who also is founder and director of FSU’s Center for Hispanic Marketing Communication, was one of five distinguished scholars asked to serve on an independent panel reviewing a key portion of the 2010 Census Integrated Communications Campaign.

Accident victim, recent Comm grad, honored online
Michaela Thomas, a May 2009 graduate who majored in Communication Studies, died from injuries sustained in a car crash last month. Loved ones used Facebook to share stories and get news updates on her condition; now, they're using the social networking site to honor her spirit.
